Last month we discussed the topic of food waste.
This month, some tips to avoid unnecessarily throwing fresh fruits and vegetables in your trash.

· Freezing:

The most popular method is easy to apply.

A fruit or vegetable that you don’t think you’ll eat quickly, you can dice it (put it in an airtight container or freezer bag) and freeze it. It’s very practical for evenings when you don’t have time or want to cook.

Please note, however, that there is also a storage time in the freezer: for example 12 months for fruits and vegetables, 6 months for meat, 4 months for your home-cooked meals, 3 to 6 months for cheese.

The golden rule to follow for all thawed food is never to refreeze it.

· Vacuum preservation:

A more recent technique than vacuum preservation which consists of putting your fruits and vegetables in a bag and removing the air contained inside. This allows them to keep a little longer in the refrigerator.

· Other tips:

Ripe fruit(s): incorporate them into cakes or make compotes (keep cool or refrigerate)

Vegetables: keep the peelings, dehydrate them in the oven and mix, you will obtain a dry broth. Incorporate into your preparations.
